Shes currently going through a divorce with her husband of nine years Alan Halsall, so Lucy-Jo Hudson probably knows a thing or two about the “heartbroken” character shes set to play on Hollyoaks.
The former Corrie star will no doubt be able to draw on personal experience when playing Donna-Marie – a 35 year old who will arrive in the village with her son Romeo, wanting to hide her “heart-breaking past”.
According to a soap insider: “Lucy will play a reckless woman desperately trying to hide a heart-breaking past.”
Despite the correlation between Lucys work-life and home-life, the actress will no doubt be pleased to have a new project to focus on amid the divorce.
The couple – who have one daughter, Sienna, together – announced their split at the beginning of May, saying it was amicable but the couple had decided to “go their separate ways”.
The 35-year-old confirmed the news in her own statement: “I can confirm that Al and I are in the process of divorcing.
“We remain friends and devoted Mummy and Daddy to our daughter Sienna. We would appreciate privacy so that we can focus on Siennas continued happiness.”
According to a source close to the soap-star couple – who met on the cobbles in 2002 – had been living apart for a while prior to the split, after building work on their five-bedroom house put their relationship under strain.
Alan – who plays Tyrone in the hit soap – had also been joking that he was going through a midlife crisis, after splashing £35,000 on a swanky new car.
“He was referring to Lucy as his ex-wife and joking about having a mid-life crisis,” the insider explained. “He seemed in pretty good spirits, though.”
And, one look at Lucy-Jos Instagram and hes not the only one as just last week the mum-of-one looked happy as she enjoyed a “mummys night out” with pals.
