Singapore Airlines and SilkAir will be introducing a new airfare pricing structure next month, with revisions to advance seat selection, frequent flyer programme mileage accrual rates, baggage allowance, and change and refund flexibility for some fare types.

The new fare types will be introduced on Jan 20 for all tickets sold worldwide.

Depending on the class of travel, customers will have up to three types of airfare to choose from when making a booking. Each will offer a combination of fare, feature and flexibility options.

Economy Class

Three new fare types will be introduced for Economy Class bookings, named Lite, Standard and Flexi.

Baggage allowance will increase to 35kg for the highest-category Flexi fares while it will remain at 30kg for Lite and Standard fares.

Advance seat selection, which is currently available for all Economy Class bookings at no charge, will be chargeable for Lite fares, starting from U.S.$5 per flight segment. It will still be available in advance at no charge for families with children (12 years old and under) in the same booking.

No charges will apply for advance seat selection for Standard and Flexi fare types, although a new category of Forward Zone seats, which are in higher demand, will be chargeable for Standard fares. Charges will also continue to apply for Extra Legroom seats, which were previously known as Preferred seats.

All customers regardless of fare type will be able to make their seat selection at no charge during the internet check-in window up to 48hr in advance of travel, subject to availability.

Complimentary advance seat selection will be available regardless of fare type for PPS Club members (Standard, Forward Zone and Extra Legroom seats), as well as for KrisFlyer Elite Gold members (Standard and Forward Zone seats) and KrisFlyer Elite Silver members (Standard seats).

Mileage accrual rates will be set at 50% for Lite fares, 75% for Standard fares and 100% for Flexi fares.

Premium Economy Class (excludes SilkAir)

Two fare types will be available in Premium Economy Class, named Standard and Flexi.

Baggage allowance will be unchanged at 35kg for both fare types. Mileage accrual, which is currently set at 110% for all Premium Economy fares, will increase to 125% for the new Flexi fare type, while it will be reduced to 100% for the new Standard fare type.

Advance seat selection will continue to be available at no charge for all Premium Economy Class bookings, while charges will apply for Extra Legroom seats – except for PPS Club members, who will enjoy complimentary Extra Legroom seat selection.

Business Class

Three fare types will be available in Business Class, named Lite, Standard and Flexi.

Baggage allowance will be unchanged in Business Class at 40kg and advance seat selection will continue to be available at no charge for all bookings.

Mileage accrual will increase to 150% for the new Flexi fare type, while it will be set at 125% for Standard and Lite fares.

Suites and First Class (excludes SilkAir)

KrisFlyer mileage accrual will increase to 200% from 150% for Suites and First Class bookings, with all other entitlements and benefits remain unchanged.

KrisFlyer Elite and PPS Club

In addition to advance seat selection benefits, KrisFlyer Elite and PPS Club members will enjoy baggage allowance privileges across the new fare types in Premium Economy Class and Economy Class.

PPS Club members will enjoy an additional 50kg of check-in baggage in First Class, an additional 40kg in Business Class, an additional 35kg in Premium Economy Class and an additional 30kg in Economy Class.

KrisFlyer Elite Gold members will enjoy an additional 20kg check-in baggage allowance when flying in all classes.
