The 44-year-old man accused of murdering a mother-of-one at the Aldi store where she worked has appeared in court.

Neville Hord did not enter a plea during his brief appearance at Leeds Crown Court.

Jodie Willsher, 30, was stabbed to death at an Aldi in Skipton, North Yorkshire, a week ago, with customers jumping in to pin down her attacker.

North Yorkshire Police said Jodie suffered multiple serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the attack in Keighley Road at 3.30pm on December 21.

Hord appeared at York Magistrates’ Court on Saturday charged with her murder.

He is believed to be the ex-partner of Jodie’s mum Nikki Dinsdale.

After Jodie’s death, her husband Malcolm described his wife as ‘lovely and warm’ and always having a smile on her face.

‘She was amazing, beautiful and a lovely person. She was a doting mother and a loving wife,’ he said in a statement.

Last week Colin Breslin, regional managing director at Aldi, said Jodie was a ‘much loved and popular colleague’ and that they were all shocked and saddened by her death.

Matthew Barnes, chief executive of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: ‘Everyone at Aldi is heartbroken by this devastating news. Our deepest sympathy goes to Jodie’s family, friends and colleagues.

‘We are doing everything we can to support our people and all those affected during this difficult time.’

Officers initially arrested Hord on suspicion of attempted murder but following her death the investigation was upgraded to a murder inquiry.

Hord was remanded in custody after the hearing at Leeds Crown Court, which lasted just 10 minutes.

He spoke only to confirm his full name, date of birth and British nationality.

The case was adjourned until January 26 when Hord, of no fixed abode, will attend Bradford Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
