This is Abhinav Kaul and I will take you through the motions of today's session on Dalal Street and bring you cues and trading tips from market veterans for upcoming trading sessions.

The domestic equity market concluded the final trading session of 2017 with a gain of over half a per cent on Friday.

Sensex closed 208 points up at 34,056, while the 50-share Nifty settled 52 points up at 10,530.

As many as 32 stocks from the Nifty index closed in the green, with Tata Motors climbing 3 per cent.

On the other hand, GAIL, BPCL, HPCL, Zee Entertainment and IOC settled lower, with losses of between 0.75 per cent and 2.05 per cent.

Shares of Astron Paper & Board Mills made a robust debut on the bourses, listing with a premium of 130 per cent on NSE at Rs 115 against the issue price of Rs 50.

It later climbed 141.50 per cent to touch a high of Rs 120.75, its upper circuit limit.

Shares of Reliance Communications surged 17.57 per cent after the company announced a definitive binding agreement with Reliance Jio Infocomm for sale of wireless assets.

Overall, benchmark equity indices surged nearly 30 per cent in 2017.

HDIL witnessed the biggest spike in open interest at 104 per cent, followed by Reliance Communications and JP Associates.

Nifty formed a white bodied black candle on the daily chart.
