A man almost had his ear cut off with hedge clippers in a violent attack during a home invasion.

A ‘gang of men’ broke into the home of Jason Mounaniss in western Sydney last night wielding the hedge clippers and other weapons.

Jason and the 22-year-old victim – known only as Joey – attempted to flee but were hunted down by the men and attacked.

Joey’s ear was partially severed and his hands were severely cut by the sharp cutters as he desperately tried to fight off his attacker.

He was rushed to hospital while Jason managed to escape relatively uninjured.

‘Eight people versus one is really scary,’ Mr Mounaniss, who was tended to at the scene by paramedics, told Seven News.

The 20-year-old said he knew one of the men and the attack was likely in retaliation for a previous dispute and he was worried they would come back.

‘Hedge clippers, a clock – there was even other weapons that I couldn’t remember, all those were thrown at us,’ he said.

‘I’m worried it could happen again.’

A trail of blood was left in the house after the attack on Joey.

Police forensic officers have since dusted the scene for prints.

A 54-year-old man has been arrested and charged over the attack while police say investigations are ongoing.
