The royal engagement might’ve delighted loads of people but the Caribbean island of Nevis was especially excited as residents are hoping they can offer the secluded spot for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s honeymoon.

Following the announcement, the idyllic island has been eagerly waiting to hear if the soon-to-be newlyweds will choose the white-sand palm-fringed beaches and offshore diving site, sheltering sea turtles and stingrays, as their honeymoon destination.

And it’s not just the scenic views that could appeal to the royal couple, there are also family connections for Harry.

Prince Harry first visited the island in 1993 when he stayed with his mother, Diana Princess of Wales, at the Montpelier Plantation and Beach.

Clearly, the island meant something to him as he returned in 2016 as part of his official tour on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen.

During his one-day visit, he also released baby turtles into the sea on the appropriately named Lovers Beach, one of the world’s most secluded beaches.

Officials in Nevis are now anticipating the royal decision.

‘As it is one of the most romantic islands in the world, we are quietly confident that Nevis’ guaranteed privacy will attract the royal newlyweds,’ says Nevis Tourism Authority CEO, Greg Phillip.

The resort is sure to allow the couple to retreat from the public eye and have fun as the island offers the chance to discover the exotic wildlife en route to the enchanting rainforest and Nevis Peak – the island’s volcano.

The royal couple can also make a splash with the watersports, and even spot local marine life such as wild sea turtles and stingrays.

The former sugar plantation, which rests on the historic Montpelier Estate, was also where Admiral Lord Nelson married Fanny Nisbet in 1787.

It should appeal to Meghan, a humanitarian and philanthropist who’s spoken out on many social issues, as the deliberate ban on fast food restaurants has positioned the island as one of the world’s healthiest natural retreats.
