The Park Hyatt Tokyo, located in Nishi-Shinjuku, is now offering guests an original English Shinjuku area map designed by acclaimed Japanese fashion illustrator Hiroshi Watatani.
The map, which was created for foreign guests to enjoy as a quirky, fun-filled guide when exploring the surrounding areas of the hotel, is available at the reception and concierge desk.
Shinjuku is rich in culture, shopping and entertainment and has a number of districts that are popular to visit among tourists. The surrounding areas of Shinjuku are historic with various attractions that can be difficult to locate without the recommendations from a local. Hence, this map was created to help assist guests by introducing these areas so that they can freely move around the city on their own.
In order to accurately navigate and identify the destinations that are featured on the map, a hotel staff member together with Watatani travelled from the hotel to all of the areas featured on the map. There are many useful tips and pointers on where to visit in each one of these areas.
With the increased numbers of of late night international flights and the recent development of the expressway tunnel connecting Park Hyatt Tokyo directly to Haneda airport, guests can find themselves with some extra time on their hands after checking out of the hotel. Why not leave your bags at the front reception and experience life as a local one last time before flying back home?
About the illustrator
Born in 1957 in Saitama Prefecture, Hiroshi Watatani debuted in 1979 as an illustrator for Popeye Magazine, Japan’s leading fashion publication. His illustration style is reminiscent of the post-war, golden era of the classical American fashion look with a touch of comic relief. His unique and humorous style has made him a renowned icon in the fashion publication world in Japan.
