Viewers were left in floods of tears last night, after emotional scenes during Call The Midwife‘s second episode of series seven.
But it seems no one was left more moved than soap star Shayne Ward – who actually has a very personal connection to one of the episode’s stars.
His fiancée, soap actress Sophie Austin, made her debut as an expectant mother in the Sunday night episode, in a tense and emotional storyline.
Her character, Marjory Chivers, suffered a stroke shortly after giving birth. And the plot inevitably sparked emotional scenes.
Following the episode’s end, Shayne took to Twitter to pay an adorable tribute to his GF, for her emotional performance.
He wrote, “That was heartbreaking to watch.
“Beautiful performances tonight @CallTheMidwife1 I’m So proud of you @SophieAustin1 A true & honest portrayal. Congratulations Xxxxx”
The kind praise clearly meant a lot to Sophie, who commented on the sweet post writing “Thanks bubba , love you xx”. Shayne also replied, “I love you too xx”. Aww, what a love-fest!
And it seems fans couldn’t agree more with Shayne’s glowing praise, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on the heartbreaking episode.

While another said, “Ah, well done Sophie! Brilliant thought provoking storylines & wonderful acting by all, one of my favourite programmes “
Others praised the show and Sophie for shining a light on the impact of strokes and rehabilitation afterwards.
One fan wrote, “Congratulations to @SophieAustin1 on her phenomenal performance tonight. The way the dignity of the story was kept throughout was amazing. A hard story to act but an important way to highlight strokes. @TheStrokeAssoc @CallTheMidwife1 #callthemidwife.”
While another viewer said, “Biggest applause for tonight’s #callthemidwife you always approach important subjects in the most gentle manner but still get the message across”

Shayne and Sophie have been together for over a year and a half. The couple were first spotted together in June 2016, when they left a Corrie co-star’s party hand-in-hand. The couple wasted no time either, as they welcomed their baby daughter Willow in December of that year.
But despite their fast-moving relationship, the pair have admitted to OK! magazine that they knew they were meant to be together.
Shane said, “Sophie was really shy when we first met. I felt like, I really like this girl,”
While Sophie added, “It was all just meant to be.”
Shayne proposed on Boxing Day last year, and the pair are soon set to marry.
