This coming week will be ‘one of the coldest’ this winter.

The Met Office has issued several ice warning across the UK as temperatures dip below zero.

Forcaster Neil Snell told Metro.co.uk: ‘This cold spell will last a long time, throughout this working week and into next weekend.

‘It will be one of the coldest weeks of this winter. There will be severe frosts and temperatures could fall as low as -5C, 6C and even -8C. People will need to wrap up warm.’

He added: ‘Tonight will see rainfall along the eastern seaboard of the UK from Northumbria to Kent, and this could turn into snow and sleet overnight.

‘Monday will be cold throughout the UK with ice warnings in parts of the East which could mean transport problems.’

The Met Office yellow warning from 8pm to 10am tomorrow is: ‘Wintry showers are expected to affect southeast England through Sunday night and Monday morning.

‘Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services. Some icy patches are likely to develop on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.’

Mr Snell added: ‘Quite a lot of the UK will see some snow as we head through Tuesday, but as it ventures into the Midlands, south-west England and eventually later in the day across south-east England, it’s just going to be a few flakes.’

Up to 3cm of snow could fall inland, especially on higher ground, including the Kent Down and the Malvern Hills.

Milder weather is expected to return to the UK next weekend.
