Market Now: BSE Smallcap index up 2%; HEG, JBM Auto among top gainers

NEW DELHI: The BSE Smallcap index was trading nearly 2 per cent up at 17,739 around 11 am (IST) on Wednesday, outperforming benchmark Sensex Sensex that was up 0.11 per cent up at 34,232 around that time. The NSE Nifty50 was 0.20 per cent up at 10,519.

Shares of HEG (up 13.76 per cent), B L Kashyap & Sons (up 12.54 per cent), Lumax Industries (up 11.21 per cent), PG Electroplast (up 8.90 per cent), Ahluwalia Contracts (India) (up 8.86 per cent), Century Plyboards (India) (up 8.04 per cent), Kesar Terminals & Infrastructure (up 7.80 per cent) and JBM Auto (up 7.68 per cent) were the top gainers in the smallcap index.

On the contrary, Gujarat NRE Coke (down 6.31 per cent), Ricoh India (down 4.99 per cent), Electrosteel Steels (down 4.99 per cent), Cupid (down 4.86 per cent), Gujarat NRE Coke (down 4.67 per cent), Stampede Capital (down 4.44 per cent), RSWM (down 4.13 per cent), Ester Industries (down 4.04 per cent), V Mart Retail (down 3.78 per cent), Shree Rama Newsprint (down 3.74 per cent) and D B Realty (down 3.48 per cent) were among the top losers in the BSE Smallcap index.

Equity market benchmarks opened in the green on Wednesday, but pared gains ahead of the outcome of the two-day RBI policy meet.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 34 were trading in the green, while 16 were in the red.

Shares of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Tata Motors and Dr Reddy's Labs were leading the Sensex index.

However, shares of NTPC, Hindustan Unilever and Wipro were among the top losers in the Sensex kitty of stocks.
