It’s set to be the wedding of the year, but the guest list for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day is already causing controversy.
As the wedding looms closer, we take a look at who is – and who is not – rumoured to be invited to the wedding…
Tracy, Thomas Jr. and Tyler Dooley
Meghan Markle’s half-brother Thomas recently gave an explosive interview, claiming that his two sons and their mother should not be invited to her wedding.
“Tracy and me stopped living as man and wife three months into the marriage because the relationship was such a disaster,” he told the Sunday Mirror. “She never wanted the Markle name when we were married and now suddenly she acts like she’s still part of the family. I don’t want her to have anything to do with us and the boys shouldn’t go along with it. They shouldn’t be at the wedding either.
“Both boys were always Dooleys as kids. I got sick of making the name an issue with Tracy and ultimately she had her way. They’re Dooleys. You cannot pick and choose when you’re a Markle.”
On the topic of the trio’s supposed closeness with Meghan, Thomas Sr. was very clear,
“It’s got to stop. The boys were babies when they met Meghan last and Tracy has never even met Meghan, ever. I don’t believe Tracy or my sons have the right to call themselves Markles. If this embarrasses Meghan then I am sorry, but Tracy can’t go on claiming to be a Markle.”
Thomas Jr. and Tyler Dooley previously appeared on Good Morning Britain along with their mother Tracy in support of Meghan. Tracy described the engagement as “a fairytale come true”, and showed home videos of Meghan as a child. When the wedding was mentioned, Tyler said, ‘if they feel that they would like to invite us, we would be honoured.'”
Sarah, Duchess of York
Royal sources recently told the Daily Mail that The Duchess of York WILL in fact be invited to Harry’s wedding, but rumours are that it may only be ‘part of the day’.
This comes after reports that Harry and Meghan would be following in Kate and William’s footsteps and not inviting The Duchess, as they were concerned she would not be able to keep quiet on the details.
Serena Williams
Meghan and Serena are close friends. Meghan has previously interviewed Serena for her now-defunct lifestyle website, The Tig, and spoke about the beginning of their friendship,
“We hit it off immediately, taking pictures, laughing through the flag football game we were both playing in, and chatting not about tennis or acting, but about all the good old fashioned girly stuff,” Meghan wrote. “So began our friendship.”
Barack Obama
Rumours have swirled that Barack and Michelle Obama would be invited to the wedding due to their close friendship with Prince Harry. The trio reportedly became close at the Invictus Games last year. However, doubt was cast upon the Obamas’ invite when a source told The Daily Mail that, “the invitation could look like a snub to Mr Trump, and His Royal Highness would not wish to cause a diplomatic row.”
Elton John
Elton John’s invite seems more than likely, especially given the singer has just cancelled two Las Vegas shows scheduled for 18th and 19th May – Meghan and Harry’s wedding takes place on the 19th May. Coincidence? We think not!
Elton John and Prince Harry have known each other a very long time, owing to the singer’s close friendship with his mother, Princess Diana. Talking to Lorraine, Elton has revealed, “I spent some time with him in Sicily last summer and I could tell that he was totally in love, and he didn’t really discuss much personally but he said ‘I’m in love’ and I thought, ‘good for you’.
Regardless of who’s invited, we can’t wait to watch the wedding of the year!
