In the past few weeks, more than one million Snapchatters have pledged their support for a campaign calling on the photo app to reverse a controversial update.
But in the past few days, fear and panic have spread through the society of the selfie after wild rumours claimed Snapchat was about to withdraw a much-loved feature.
It’s been claimed that the update will be reversed on February 20 in a new version of the Snapchat app.
If you’re one of the many angry Snappers who want an end to all this pesky progress, you might think this was good news.
Yet it’s also been claimed that this update will ditch ‘Streaks’, which start when you and a friend snap each other for more than three consecutive days.
A few nervous people asked Snapchat’s Twitter support page whether Streaks were on the way out, whilst there was a minor spike in search traffic in recent days fuelled by fear it will soon ‘get rid’ of the popular feature.
‘Is it true you are getting rid of streaks?’ one person asked Snapchat on Twitter.
‘People have worked hard to get to thousands, so why?’
However, we’d advise you to take this gossip with a pinch of salt, because the rumours appear to be unfounded.
The tittle-tattle about a February 20 reverse upgrade may have been sparked by several tweets which turned out to be false.
People have been claiming that Snapchat’s update makes it harder to keep streaks going, because you now see them on a new Friends page.
‘I just lost my streaks with a friend again because of the new update,’ one Twitterer wrote.
‘Snapchat puts everyone’s stories first on the Friends page, which pushes my recents down below everyone else.
‘I would like the people that I snap every day at the top of my screen. Streaks come before stories.’
