Cadbury has shaken the world of confectionery by claiming Creme Egg is pronounced ‘crem’.
Chocolate fan Shawna Leigh asked the team on Twitter to explain once and for all if the correct way to say the name was ‘crem’ or ‘cream’.
It’s not just a case of ‘how do you say yours’, apparently, as there is a definitive answer.
A representative responded to say: ‘Pronounced as Crem :)’
That cute little smiley face hid the backlash which was about to fall down upon their heads, as the UK struggled to appreciate how this could be possible:
I just said to @dcturner “Cadbury is trying to say that Creme Egg is pronounced ‘crem egg’”, and he shouted “WHAT?”. This is the correct response.

Cadbury has now deleted the tweet, presumably because they realised what they claimed was a ‘crem against humanity’ (thanks for the pun, Dan Barker.
‘If it’s supposed to be pronounced ‘Crem’, why did you market the Halloween ‘Screme Egg’ to rhyme with ‘scream’? SCREM EGG?!’ Cass Lowe asked, with appropriate levels of anger and disbelief.

But panic over, everyone – Cadbury has set the record straight and said it was all a mix-up.
A spokesman said: ‘Looks like we missed out the ‘a’ there! Most definitely pronounced as ‘Cream’ egg!’
