NEW DELHI: The BSE Smallcap index was outpacing benchmark Sensex in Thursday's trade.

At 10:55 hours, the BSE Smallcap index was slightly down by 0.02 per cent at 17,796, while the BSE Sensex was 0.27 per cent down at 33,754. The NSE Nifty50 was 0.35 per cent down at 10,361.

Shares of Nucleus Software Exports (up 10.04 per cent), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (up 8.67 per cent), PG Electroplast (up 8.25 per cent), Vadilal Industries (up 5.26 per cent), Lanco Infratech (up 5 per cent), Chaman Lal Setia Exports (up 4.97 per cent) and Persistent Systems (up 4.97 per cent) were the top gainers in the BSE Smallcap index.

On the other hand, Gujarat NRE Coke (down 6.73 per cent), Ricoh India (down 4.99 per cent), RattanIndia Infrastructure (down 4.93 per cent), Gitanjali Gems (down 4.92 per cent) and Stampede Capital (down 4.74 per cent) were the top losers in the smallcap index around that time.

Benchmark indices were in the negative zone, tracking global cues. Investors were seen cautious ahead of the expiry of February series futures and options contracts later in the day.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 14 were trading in the green, while 36 were in the red.

Sun Pharma, Adani Ports and Tata Steel were leading among the gainers in the Sensex index.

However, ONGC, Dr Reddy's Labs and Asian Paints were among the top losers in the Sensex kitty of stocks.
