Market Now: BSE Midcap index outpaces benchmark Sensex

NEW DELHI: The BSE Midcap index was outpacing benchmark Sensex during Friday's trade.

Around 10:40 hours, the BSE Midcap index was 1.15 per cent up at 16,510, while the BSE Sensex was 0.49 per cent up at 33,985. The NSE Nifty50 was 0.49 per cent up at 10,434.

Shares of Federal Bank (up 4.39 per cent), Jindal Steel & Power (up 4.10 per cent), Muthoot Finance (up 3.64 per cent), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) (up 3.58 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services (up 3.42 per cent), Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company (up 2.96 per cent), Divi's Laboratories (up 2.78 per cent), Wockhardt (up 2.76 per cent), Endurance Technologies (up 2.65 per cent), NBCC (India) (up 2.64 per cent), National Aluminium Company (NALCO) (up 2.61 per cent) and Biocon (up 2.54 per cent) were among the top gainers in the midcap index.

On the other hand, Vakrangee (down 5 per cent), Container Corporation of India (down 1.14 per cent), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (down 0.87 per cent), Procter & Gamble Hygiene & Healthcare (down 0.63 per cent), Dalmia Bharat (down 0.63 per cent), Blue Dart Express (down 0.52 per cent) and Adani Enterprises (down 0.34 per cent) were among the losers in the BSE Midcap index around that time.

Equity benchmark were in the positive territory as the March derivatives series kicked off on a strong note amid positive Asian cues.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 35 were trading in the green, while 15 were in the red.
