The UK is bracing itself for the coldest late February for five years which could see the wind chill temperature colder than the North Pole.

The Met Office confirmed the cold snap will be so bad ‘it will stick in people’s minds’ like other famous UK weather moments including the boiling hot summer of 1976.
The wind chill figure will plummet to between -10C and -15C as freezing eastern winds will make the temperature feel a lot lower than it actually is.
The North Pole on the other hand is seeing temperatures rise and this week could be the first time since records began that the polar night temperature is not below freezing.
Snowfall is expected to start in the east on Monday and spread across the country on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Met Office forecaster Charlie Powell told Metro.co.uk: ‘Across the UK it will be pretty severe and nasty this week, we are looking at the coming cold spell as something which could stick in peoples minds.
‘It is going to be uncomfortable, people will need to wrap up warm and watch out for chapped lips and take notice of the weather warnings which are in place up and down the country.’
He added: ‘This will be widespread across the country with severe frost and snow being felt everywhere. The Met Office has issued weather warnings for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.’
The official yellow warning for the east of England said: ‘Snow showers, already affecting eastern parts of England early on Monday, are expected to become more persistent and more widespread through Monday afternoon and evening.
‘There is the potential for travel delays on roads, stranding of some vehicles and passengers, as well as delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.
‘Some rural communities could become cut off. Power cuts may also occur and other services, such as mobile phones, may be affected.’
And on Tuesday the yellow warning for the majority of England and Scotland is: ‘Snow showers or longer periods of snow are expected.
Sunday will generally be a colder day than today, and if we add on the effect of the easterly wind it will feel sub zero in most areas. Brrr! pic.twitter.com/4iLRaqSbx7

The big freeze will be with us for some time yet as the Met Office have warned the start of spring, March 1, is expected to be cold as well.
Mr Powell added: ‘We refer to March 1 as being the first day of spring and of course March 1 will be right in the middle of this cold spell, so spring will be postponed for a couple of weeks, shall we say.’
Public Health England warned the freezing temperatures will be bad for the vulnerable, including the very young and old.
Dr Thomas Waite, of Public Health England’s extreme events team, said: ‘Check on friends, family and neighbours who may be at risk and make sure they’re heating homes to at least 18C, see if they need any particular help or just someone to talk to and keep an eye on the Met Office’s forecasts and warnings.’
