YOU'VE GOT THE LOVE: The carnival is celebrating gay and lesbian pride

Half a million revellers have taken to the streets of Sydney in celebration today.

This year, the annual parade marks the 40th anniversary of Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

The event pays tribute to those who protested for the decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1978.

It is the first time that the occasion has taken place since Australia legalised same-sex marriage, making the festivities more exciting than ever.

A procession of 200 rainbow-coloured floats made its way down the streets.

Men and women quickly followed suit, walking the city streets in very daring outfits.

Street dancers flashed their boobs and booties in risqué carnival attire.

While some bared-their bodies in thong-style hot pants, others sashayed through the streets in sexy fishnet stockings.

BREAST IN SHOW: Some of the revellers even walked the street topless

High heels and ostentatious headdresses completed the eye-catching looks.

Dykes on Bikes, a motorcycle club, could also be seen making their way through the crowds on their vehicles.

While many waved Pride flags, others held up banners celebrating the legalisation of same-sex marriage.

Street party fashion is always big, bold and beautiful.

Last month, Rio Carnival saw some of the most outrageous outfits ever.

Brazilian babes showed off their assets in clothes adorned with sequins, feathers and glitter.

Venice Carnival was equally eventful as circus performers showed off jaw-dropping tricks on the Italian streets.
