YOU'VE GOT THE LOVE: The carnival is celebrating gay and lesbian pride
Half a million revellers have taken to the streets of Sydney in celebration today.
This year, the annual parade marks the 40th anniversary of Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
The event pays tribute to those who protested for the decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1978.
It is the first time that the occasion has taken place since Australia legalised same-sex marriage, making the festivities more exciting than ever.
