Coronation Street’s Mikey North will have played Gary Windass for 10 years this year. Hard to believe, we know!
Right now, he’s front and centre of the soap; plotting to bring down villain Pat Phelan alongside Nicola Rubenstein, who is pregnant with his baby after a one-night stand.
Away from Corrie, Mikey, 31, is married to Rachel and the couple are proud parents to son Archie, 15 months, and here he reveals all about 10 years on the cobbles and life as a dad.
“I started on Coronation Street in 2008, so this year marks a decade. It’s flown by! It’s a third of my life, so it’s kind of like home now. Will I celebrate? Any excuse for a party – I’ll tell the missus the plan!
“It was awful saying goodbye to Debbie Rush, who played Anna, my on-screen mum. She’s like a second mum. I spoke to her earlier this morning, but it’s odd to not see her when I come into work and hear her voice shouting at me in the background of things, or telling me off for something!
“I’m very soppy about Archie. Being a dad is the best. I cherish every minute with him, he’s a little legend. Growing up, I wanted to be a cricketer so I’ve got a mini bat and can’t wait to play with him.
“People usually say, “You look much shorter in real life,” or “You’re not bad looking for a ginger!” I was at the airport and someone said, “God, you’ve lost weight – you look really fat on telly!”
“Dancing on Ice is my idea of hell! I don’t belong anywhere near ice. My wife would love me to do Strictly as she’s a dancer, but I’m not sure. She wanted to do a choreographed routine for our first dance, but it felt like showing off. I’m A Celeb is what I’m most suited to – I’d do any challenge to not embarrass myself in front of millions of people!”
