An American politician who breastfeeds her baby in a campaign video has gone viral.

Wisconsin Democrat candidate Kelda Roys, 38, feeds her infant daughter throughout the advert, in which she talks about how she has helped ban the use of neurotoxic BPA chemicals in baby bottles.

She told The Cap Times: ‘Like most working parents around the state, I juggle a lot of things and responsibilities, and I wear a lot of hats.

‘When we were shooting the video, my family was obviously there, and when the baby needs to eat I just feed her.

‘In 2018, people are hungry for candidates who are authentic and speak the truth. I don’t want to have to hide a really important part of myself in order to win an election.’

Here is Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Kelda Roys who released a political campaign video of herself breastfeeding her baby, which quickly went viral. While nourishing her infant daughter Roys, 38, describes the work she has done to ban the use of neurotoxic BPA chemicals in baby bottles and sippy cups.

In the campaign video she says: ‘That’s what’s wrong with politics today.

‘Are we taking our orders from people?

‘Or are we taking them from chemical corporations that don’t care at all about what people need?’

She was praised by women on Twitter for bringing breastfeeding out into the open in a country which can be prudish about mothers doing it in public.

So proud to share my first campaign video with you! I'm running for governor because WI can do better than caving to corporate interests that harm our health & environment. I know because we've beaten them before. #BPA#WIgov#WIpoliticspic.twitter.com/jHvwU9O06c

Mo Sheehy tweeted: ‘I died and went to heaven watching you stake a claim on power while not disavowing your female identity and body.’

She was a state lawmaker from 2009 to 2013 and she is campaigning on several issues including universal paid family and sick leave, equal pay for women, a $15 minimum wage and full access to reproductive care for women.

Roys is hoping to beat Wisconsin’s Republican governor Scott Walker in November’s mid-term elections.
