With excitement mounting for the Royal Wedding, it’s only right that we should all have a drink to celebrate.

And ahead of the nuptials, which will take place on May 19th, Lidl has launched a special wine to mark the occasion.

Priced as just £7.99, Broadwood’s Folly white wine is fittingly made in England by Surray-based winemakers Denbies.

Using Reichensteiner, Muller Thurgau, Bacchus, Seyval Blanc and Ortega grapes, it is described as having “dry, fresh-tasting, light spritz, appetising flavours of green apple.”

Lidl’s master of wine, Richard Bampfield, praised England’s growing wine industry, saying: “England’s wines get better and better as the vineyards mature and wine-making improves.

“The wines are light, crisp and delicately fragrant, with wonderfully natural freshness and purity of fruit.”

English winemakers have played an important part in recent Royal Weddings, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge choosing to serve Chapel Down Rose Brut – which hails from a winery in Kent – at their 2011 wedding.

And there has been speculation that Prince Harry and Meghan will choose wine from the English label for their big day.

Lidl also recently launched a new Artificial Intelligence powered chatbot, which will help customers find the perfect drink for any occasion.

The chatbot, named Margot, will talk you through the right Lidl wine for you, as well as what to pair it with.

We wonder what Meghan would think of all of this, given her well-publicised love of wine.

She once wrote in her blog that her favourite way to relax is to “watch mindless TV, snuggle with my dogs and enjoy a glass of wine.”

Even her now-defunct blog The Tig was named after her favourite Tignanello red wine.
