Police have launched an appeal after a man was attacked with a saw in broad daylight.

A shocking video showed the victim fending off his attacker opposite a Dixys Chicken takeaway in Birmingham, on Monday, at around 11am.

He had apparently been assaulted by two men at the junction of Alum Rock Road and Highfield Road in an unprovoked attack while he waited at traffic lights in his car.

The men had punched him through the open window, according to West Midlands Police.

When the victim retaliated against the men, who were pulled up beside him, one of them went to retrieve the saw from his boot.

He then hit the victim several times with the weapon before other people intervened and he was forced to flee in his car.

The man who suffered the attack was not seriously injured but had to be treated for cuts in hospital.

West Midlands Police have now launched an appeal for more information on the incident.
