What with the recent Cambridge Analytica scandal, it seems like more and more people are becoming wary with Facebook.

Knowing they have our data is all a bit too Big Brother for some of us, and is it actually worth it for the memes?

The advice from WhatsApp’s founder is to delete your profile, so if you want to follow his advice here’s how to go about it.

Delete your Facebook account

Facebook has two options; deactivating which temporarily removes your account from searches until you decide to reactivate, or complete deletion.

You can deactivate your Facebook for this short period (which means all your data won’t be lost) or delete completely with the following methods:

  1. Click the account menu down arrow at the top right of any Facebook page in your web browser
  2. Select settings
  3. Choose security in the left column
  4. Choose deactivate your account’, and follow the steps to finalise this

How to delete the Facebook app?

Once you’ve deleted your account, you may wish to get rid of the app completely from your phone.

On iPhone, you delete apps by holding down on your home screen. When the apps start moving around click the cross in the top-right corner of the app you want to delete.

On an Android phone, open your device’s settings, tap apps & notifications, then choose the app that you want to uninstall. If you don’t see it, first tap see all apps or app info. Then choose to uninstall.
