What are the Instagram story dimensions?

If you don’t upload it to your Instagram story, did it even happen?

In a similar fashion to a Snapchat story, this platform lets you take pictures or videos or upload them from your camera roll. They then stay up on your story for your followers to view for 24 hours, after which they’re gone.

If you’re taking the picture or video direct from the app, it’ll automatically be the correct size so that all the important stuff is in shot.

However, if you’re uploading from camera roll, depending on how you shot it originally, it could be zoomed in or altered to suit Instagram Stories guidelines.

To avoid that, you can make sure it’s already in the correct format in the first place.

What are the right Instagram Story dimensions?

The optimal size for Instagram Story dimension for high quality HD photos and videos is 1080 pixels width x 1920 pixels height.

This is also an aspect ratio of 9:16.

Instagram is very strict about the size of your stories and if you upload a photo or video to your Instagram story that does not fit the required dimensions.

Instagram will crop and sometimes zoom into your photo or video. This can diminish the quality and sometimes this cuts out important visuals.

However, some people have complained about the uploading time.

In order to solve this problem, you can keep the 9:16 aspect ratio by sizing to 900px x 1600px or 720px x 1280px for faster loading times.

If you choose to upload photos and videos using a different aspect ratio, some of the picture will get cropped off.
