Hey there! The talk of the town is trade war, right? Stocks and bonds are crashing, and there is this huge hue and cry around what the US President is up to.

This is Himani Sahni from ETMarkets.com, and I am bringing you this special podcast on what this so-called trade war is all about and how will it affect our markets.

First, a brief on what has really happened. US President Donald Trump on Thursday unveiled plans to impose tariffs on up to $60 billion worth of Chinese goods. And he also imposed investment restrictions on Beijing.

China has already made its intentions clear and let the world know that it will not take things lying down. So, expect some tit-for-tat trade barriers on US exports to China as well.

Worse still, trade experts are not sure what Donald Trump’s end game is. How bad can the fight get?

The fallout for the financial markets was immediate. Stocks crashes across the globe on Thursday and Friday. On Dalal Street, the Sensex collapsed some 410 points on Friday to close at 32,596. The Nifty slipped below the 10,000-mark for the first time in 2018.

We went to some top market analysts to get a sense as to how this multi-dimensional trade war is going to impact equities and currency markets back home.

Chennai-based Shyam Sekhar is the Chief Ideator and Founder of iThought and a successful value investor. He shares his views on what awaits the market.
