Where did he/she/they propose is most likely one of the first questions you’ll get when you get engaged, so they’d better to make it a good one.

And what’s the first thing people do when they find a bae to marry? Post it on Instagram of course.

Analysing data from hashtags like #engaged and #bridetobe, marriage website Hitched.co.uk found the top ten landmarks around the world where people are choosing to pop the big question.

Some of the destinations are world-famous romance hotspots like in front of the Eiffel Tower and in Disneyland (Paris) which took top spot.

Other traditional monuments that gave couples the romantic backdrop to propose includes the Hollywood sign in L.A.

As well as using hashtags, geotagging also enabled Hitched.co.uk to use the Instagram API to find out the most popular landmarks for Instagram users to get engaged.

The Disney magic is real as Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Florida, and also Disney’s Epcot Park in Florida were respectively number one, two and eight out of the top ten.

Top places to propose

  1. Disneyland, Paris – one in 500 proposals
  2. Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Florida – one in 555 proposals
  3. Centennial Lakes Park, Minnesota – one in 625 proposals
  4. Eiffel Tower, Paris – one in 679 proposals
  5. The Hollywood Sign, Los Angeles – one in 1,000
  6. Central Park and Brooklyn Bridge, New York – in joint 6th place, one in 1,111
  7. Niagara Falls, Ontario – 1 in 1,250 proposals
  8. Walt Disney’s Epcot Park, Florida – one in 1,428 proposals
  9. Big Bear Lake, California – one in 1,666 proposals
  10. Bondi Beach, Sydney – one in 2,000 proposals

So now that you’ve got ideas for the where, all you need is how.

Conveniently, Hitched.co.uk also came up with 35 different ways of proposing, if flying abroad is not an option for you.

From writing down all the reasons you want to marry your partner in a little notebook, to a spoon with the words ‘will you marry me’ engraved on it, to more flashier arrangements like a flash mob.

But pay attention to detail, what do they love, what will they really appreciate?

Ultimately though it doesn’t really matter where you propose, it’s bound to be a story worth telling anyway.
