A three-year-old girl begged her mother not to cry as she wailed over her children’s bodies.
The children’s nanny, Yoselyn Ortega, 55, is accused of murdering Lucia, six, and Leo, two, with a kitchen knife in the bathroom of their New York apartment on October 25, 2012.

Retired NYPD detective Luis Sandoval choked back tears as he described finding three-year-old Nessie trying to consol her devastated mother, Marina Krim, in the bathroom where her two children had been viciously killed.
Marina and Nessie had been at a swimming lesson but returned home to find Lucia and Leo stabbed to death in the bathtub.
The little girl begged her mother: ‘Please mommy, don’t cry’.
Mr Sandoval described how he knew how to do CPR and wanted to try and save the children’s lives but another police officer told him: ‘They’re done. They’re blue.’

Ortega also stabbed herself in the neck after killing her two children but survived her injuries.
She does not deny the killings, but is pleading insanity.
The Dominican-born former caregiver had worked as the family’s part time nanny for the two and a half years.
Another nanny, Chelsea Andrews, said Ortega complained in Spanish about not being paid enough, and was acting strangely the day before the murders.
She said: ‘When I saw her that day in her state of mind, I said to myself, and I told another person, that I did not want to have a play date with her because I did not like the way she looked.’
Marina and her husband Kevin have had two more boys since Lucia, known to her family as Lulu, and Leo were killed.
They also founded a foundation that nurtures creativity among children facing adversity.
The trial continues.
