The incredible footage was shot at the Rosa Khutor Resort in Sochi – home to the 2014 Winter Olympics – and has since gone viral online after leaving viewers speechless.
Dozens of further pictures and videos have been circulating, showing the resort glowing with an unusual hue, making slopes seem more like desert dunes.
The pictures even prompted some to question whether the photos had been edited with a sepia filter.

But meteorologists verified the incredible images, giving an explanation as to how it happened.
Dust blown into the atmosphere from the faraway Sahara Desert had been dragged north by unique weather conditions before mixing with dust already trapped in the clouds.
It cooled and formed with snow before falling on the Russian hillside – even travelling as far as Mount Elbrus, more than 100 miles away from the ski resort.

The slopes have remained open despite the discoloured snow, giving winter sports fanatics the chance to experience the once-in-a-lifetime conditions.
“This would be both terrifying, astonishing and aesthetic to take photos all at the same time, wow,” one viewer wrote online.
Another joked: “At least its not yellow snow.”
