Holly Willoughby found herself in a heated debate on Tuesdays This Morning when one mum appeared on the show to boast about having a favourite child.
Alisha Tierney-March admitted to hosts Holly and Phillip Schofield that although she has four children – Addison, 9, Harleigh, 7, Kennedie, 2 and one-year-old Elijah – she openly favours Kennedie.
The 32-year-old – who lives in Derbyshire with her husband Julius – explained: “When Kennedy came along, the other two were in school so I got those whole six hours together, I breastfed her which I hadnt been able to do like my other children.”
Alisha then went on to admit Harleigh was her favourite before Kennedy was born, continuing: “Harleigh was my favourite. Addison was a really difficult baby and the other would scream from two in the afternoon to two in the morning, really, really hard work.”
Defending her decision to speak so openly about the shock subject, Alisha added: “Although theyre my favourites they dont get preferential treatment. They all get loved equally.
“My husband thinks Kennedy gets away with more, but Im not going to punish a two-year-old, the way I do a seven or nine-year-old.”
But 36-year-old Holly – who is a mum-of-three herself – was clearly uncomfortable during the chat and later asked Alisha whether her confession could be damaging to her other children.
“I know were giggling because its sort of shocking, but the alarm bells are ringing about what it will do to them eventually”, she said.
“Thats going in your head as a child and living with that inside and that growing and becoming bigger.”
The telly star then asked: “Do you not worry about the impact thats going to have on them? Are you not doing more damage? Her siblings are going to build a resentment towards her.”
Alisha then replied: “I think I would. But we did sit down as a family before I agreed to do this and I said, what do you think?
“And they were like, Yes you do spend more time with Kennedy, we think shes your favourite but we know you love us just as much.'”
But despite Alishas defence, it looks like viewers at home were just as shocked as Holly, as one wrote: “How on earth can she sit in this morning and say shes got a favourite child shocking #ThisMorning”.
While another agreed: “Cant believe how open this lady is about having a favourite child! #ThisMorning“.
