With the 19th of May quickly approaching, preparations for the royal wedding are in full swing. And if youre like us, then youre dying to see how everything is going to come together on Meghan and Harrys special day.
While the royal family will be gathered at St. Georges Chapel in Windsor, most of us will be crowded around the telly trying to imagine what the celebrations are like in person.
But now Iceland has ensured that there is one wedding essential we wont have to wonder about. The chains head chef, Neil Nugent, has created a dupe of Meghan and Harrys wedding cake – and it only costs £8!
The supermarket remake is nearly identical to the royal confection, which will be made by Claire Ptak of Violet Bakery. Meghan and Harry have chosen an elegant lemon and elderflower cake, covered in smooth buttercream frosting – yum!
California raised and London based, Ptak was once featured on Meghans old lifestyle blog, The Tig. She used to work as a pastry chef at Chez Panisse in Berkeley, California, before starting her own business in London in 2010.
Ptak is passionate about using seasonal and organic ingredients in her cakes. In a statement about the wedding, she revealed her excitement, I cant tell you how delighted I am to be chosen to make Prince Harry and Ms. Markles wedding cake. Knowing that they really share the same values as I do about food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and most importantly flavour, makes this the most exciting event to be a part of.
Icelands Chef Nugent has cooked up a cake that he believes will resemble all the finer details of the real thing. It will feature everything, from elderflower buttercream and Sicilian lemon curd to decorations of chocolate pearls.
If you dont feel like trekking down to Violet Bakery in Hackney, London, or dont see a successful DIY recipe attempt in your future, then Icelands clever creation is the perfect way to celebrate like a royal!
Chef Nugent explained the logic behind his idea, “We want our customers to enjoy the royal wedding celebrations in style and what better way to do that than raising a glass of champagne to the newlyweds and having a slice of their actual wedding cake – well, kind of.”
Sounds to us like the perfect snack for any authentic viewing party. But mark your calendar – the cake is limited edition, only in stores from 14 May until the day of the wedding!
