Mexicos seismological service reported of a huge, 5.6 magnitude earthquake overnight.
However, it was quickly downgraded to 5.3 magnitude by the US Geological Service.
The Mexico earthquake struck the eastern region of Guerrero, 18km away from the city of Xalpatlahuac.
Guerrero, home to beautiful beaches, is known as a mecca for ocean-loving tourists.
However, the earthquake was so strong it was said to be felt as far away as Mexico City.
There were no signs of significant damage or casualties, and no tsunami warning was issued.
Around 35 million people visited Mexico in 2016 and its a popular travel destination for Brits.

With Mexico suffering a series of more powerful earthquakes in recent months, is it safe to travel to the country?
The Foreign Office (FO) has not issued a fresh travel warning for Mexico.
Most of Mexico occasionally is subject to earthquakes, particularly the regions of Guerrero and Oaxaca.
If you want to stay on the safe side you should avoid these areas.

Last September two deadly earthquakes in Mexico cause wide scale damage.
On September 8 at least 90 people lost their lives after an 8.1 magnitude earthquake hit the southern coast.
A large portion of the deaths were in the state of Oaxaca, where 20 people died.
A 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Mexico City on September 19, killing at least 216 people.

There are other reasons to stay vigilant when visiting Mexico.
It is important to be cautious because of the countrys high levels of criminal activity.
According to the FO, drug-related violence has increased in Mexico over recent years.
This depends on where you travel to, as some regions are better than others.
The FO urges travellers to research the holiday destination thoroughly.

It says: “Outbursts of politically-motivated violence can occur across the country, with a recent increase in the states of Guerrero and Mexico City.”
The US Travel Advisory currently have a level 2 warning for crime in Mexico, meaning “Exercise Increased Caution.”
It continues: “Violent crime, such as homicide, kidnapping, carjacking and robbery is widespread.”
The Mexico Travel advisory urges people not to travel to the following destinations, due to high levels of crime: Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Sinaloa and Tamaulipas.
The governmental website advises people to use toll roads and avoid driving at night, being careful when visiting local bars and nightclubs and not to display signs of wealth.

In 2016, 513,800 British nationals visited Mexico, and while most visits are trouble free, it is important to be vigilant.
The FO said: “The security situation can pose a risk to foreigners.
“Be alert to the existence of street crime as well as more serious violent crimes like robbery, assault and vehicle hijacking.
“In certain parts of Mexico you should take particular care to avoid being caught up in drug related violence between criminal groups.”
