EXCHANGE RATE: The pound to euro exchange rate is down 12% as Brexit anniversary approaches
The pound to euro exchange rate has gone through a versatile time since the EU Referendum on June 23 2016.
Following Mark Carneys comment that that households were at least £900 a year worse off as a result of the Brexit, FairFX looked into how sterling is performing post-referendum.
As we approach the two-year anniversary of the Brexit vote currency experts reveal the pound is down 12% against the euro.
This means youll now get the equivalent of £67 less of holiday spending money if you change £500 today, compared with May 2016.

The pound is also down 7% against the US Dollar comparing the rate today with May 23rd 2016. This means youll get the equivalent to £40 less when you change £500 today compared with May 2016.
This time last year (23 May 2017) as the one year anniversary of Brexit approached, the pound was down 10% against both the Euro and the US dollar.

But there are ways you can get better value for money on your holiday currency.
Ian continues: “With school half term and the two year anniversary of the referendum coming up, holidaymakers can still get value for money if they plan ahead, and make sure they buy their currency when the pound is at its strongest.
“Keeping an eye on exchange rates ahead of planned trips and locking-in at a guaranteed rate is the best way to get more travel money for your hard earned cash.”
“Were seeing more and more savvy holidaymakers buying currencies when the rate is in their favour – even if they havent booked a holiday yet.
“Leaving it until the last minute means having to accept the exchange rates on offer that day, and that can have a considerable impact on the amount you get.”

1. Be flexible with your destination
Pick a destination where your pound goes further thanks to favourable exchange rates.
2. Set up an alert
Set up a currency alert with a currency provider such as FairFX so that you are alerted to the best time to buy when the rate moves in your favour.
3. Dont leave it until the airport
Whatever you do, dont leave sorting out your travel money until the last minute as you could be left severely out of pocket. Exchange rates at the airport can be more than 13% more expensive than elsewhere meaning that you could lose £130 for every £1,000 you exchange.

4. Beware the double dupe
Once youre abroad, beware of the double exchange rate dupe. If you let the seller in a shop or restaurant convert the price back into pounds, they will choose their own exchange rate and youre more likely to be on the less favourable end of the deal. Always opt to pay in the local currency.
5. Beware of the sneaky Airport ATM
If you are savvy enough to have a Euro or Dollar prepaid currency card, be careful about taking cash from airport ATMs.
When withdrawing currency from UK airport ATMs with a Euro or Dollar prepaid card, most of them charge you in Pounds instead of your Euros or Dollars, and hit you with hidden conversion fees.
