Earlier this year, the Ryanair made changes to its hand luggage policy.

This meant passengers who wish to place their carry-on bags into overhead lockers must pay £5 for Priority Boarding.

Previously, you could save time by collecting your belongings from the overhead lockers and leaving the airport.

Now the airlines CEO Michael OLeary has explained how this could soon change in a video presentation discussing the Financial Year 2018 for Ryanair.

RYANAIR: The low-budget airline could make more changes to its hand-luggage policy

“It is creating a handling issue particularly at peak periods”

Michael OLeary

He said: “It is creating a handling issue particularly at peak periods; bank holiday weekends, summer peak periods.

“There are many flights where were now having to put 100 or 120 gate bags free of charge into the hold.

“If that continues to build, its something we may have to look at again.”

Mr O'Leary said the hand luggage changes have “speeded up gate boarding” thanks to fewer passengers struggling to find space in overhead lockers.

A recent change for Ryanair passengers is the check-in times for flights.

This has been reduced to 48 hours before a flight for passengers who dont reserve a seat.

POLICY: Ryanair's CEO explained how a new change could happen this year

The changes will be brought into place from June 13 this year.

Passengers are currently allowed to take suitcases no bigger than 55cm x 40cm x 20cm and must not weigh more than 10kg.

This is free for Priority Boarding passengers or put into the hold for free for Non Priority passengers.

Anyone who has their luggage put into the hold must remember their passport from it or they could face troubles at customs.

A smaller handbag or laptop bag can also be taken onboard as long as it is less than 35cm x 20cm x 20cm.

Anything that is bigger than these sizes will pay £55 at the boarding gate.
