Geri Halliwell proved that embarrassing bday throwbacks still apply at 40, as she took to Instagram to wish her pal and former bandmate Mel b a happy birthday.
To mark Mels 43rd birthday, Geri shared an adorable throwback pic of the girls before they shot to fame as the Spice Girls in 1994 – along with Victoria Beckham, Melanie Chisholm and Emma Bunton.
Giving us major Scary Spice and Ginger Spice vibes, the photo showed Mel rocking her signature curly afro and showing off her killer abs, as Geri posed in a monochrome 80s-style dress and ankle boots.
She captioned the snap: “Happy birthday @officialmelb! This was taken just before we had any success ,when Mel lived with @melaniecmusicacross the road from my mums house. #funtimes
”

Fans couldnt get enough of the pic, as they praised the girls for remembering their humble beginnings and reminisced about the bands hey days.
“Dont forget where u come from 
” one said.
“Oh God! I love it! Let us Go back in time 
” another wrote.
“Man I miss spice girls! 90s & the music were the best!” a third added.
Others were happy to see Mel and Geri had remained friends, after rumours of a long term feud, with Geri coincidentally quitting the band on Mels 23rd birthday in 1998.
“Damn @therealgerihalliwell. Has it really been 20 years since you left on @officialmelbbirthday? Glad everything is patched up. Love you both,” one fan commented.
And during an interview after Geris sudden departure, Mel touched upon their troubled relationship, admitting they “fought like cat and dog.”
“When Geri left the group it was bad,” she said.
“She left on my birthday and didnt tell anybody. She just didnt show up. We had the rest of the … American part of the tour to continue.”
And despite it being 20 years on, with recent talks of a reunion and the girls now mums – Mel to Phoenix, 19, Angel, 11, and Madison, six, and Geri to Bluebell, 12, and Montague, one – the Americas Got Talent judge hasnt forgotten about the incident.

“I still remind [Geri] of it. I saw her a couple of weeks ago and I said: Do you remember when you left on my birthday?” she revealed in an interview.
