NEW DELHI: Midcap index was outperforming benchmark Sensex during the first half of Monday's trade.
The BSE Midcap index was trading 0.67 per cent up at 16,129 around 11:45 am on Monday.
The BSE Sensex was 0.45 per cent up at 35,603, while the Nifty50 was 0.51 per cent up at 10,822 around the same time.
Shares of IIFL Holdings (up 5.48 per cent), Vakrangee (up 4.90 per cent), GE T&D India (up 4.06 per cent), Central Bank of India (up 3.95 per cent) and United Breweries (up 3.69 per cent) were the top gainers in the midcap index.
On the other hand, PNB Housing Finance (down 3.21 per cent), Container Corporation of India (down 2.11 per cent), Crisil (down 2.08 per cent), Castrol India (down 2.01 per cent) and Shriram City Union Finance (down 1.68 per cent) were among the top losers in the index around the same time.
Market sentiment was positive on buying in all sectors amid mixed global cues.
Telecom, pharma, consumer durables counters were witnessing decent buying interest.
In the Sensex index, 26 stocks were trading with gains, while 5 were incurring losses.
Bharti Airtel was leading the pack of Sensex gainers, rising over 3 per cent.
