If the thing putting you off visiting down under is the time spent on a plane, you could be visiting Oz sooner than you think.

Because Boeing has just released plans for an aircraft thatll get you over there in just five hours.

Yup, the American manufacturer is planning to cut a whopping 11 hours off the current flight time – so just imagine the speed at which youd be rocketing through the sky.

Boeing revealed its new aeroplane plans at the 2018 American Institute of Aeronautics Aviation, telling audiences that it has a travel speed of 6500km/h.

To put that in perspective, thats five times faster than the speed of sound.

Boeings chief hypersonic scientist, Kevin Bowcutt, says that the firm is excited to be at the forefront of a travel revolution.

Were excited about the potential of hypersonic technology to connect the world faster than ever before.

Boeing is building upon a foundation of six decades of work designing, developing and flying experimental hypersonic vehicles, which makes us the right company to lead the effort in bringing this technology to market in the future.

Mind you, you might have to hold on a bit before you start packing.

Theres no exact timeline in place yet, Boeing says the hypersonic passenger vehicle could be airborne in the next 20-30 years.

Still, that gives you time to save up for what promises to be probably the most expensive air ticket going.
