Princess Diana was, and is, one of the worlds most famous fashion icons.
Her inimitable style wowed the world during her lifetime – and continues to inspire fashion fans to this day.
However, towards the end of her life, there was one prestigious fashion label the late Princess refused to wear – for this heartbreaking reason.
According to Australian designer Jayson Brundson, the Princess of Wales decided against wearing Chanel following the breakdown of her marriage to Charles, as the two Cs joined together reminded her too much of ex-husband Charles and Camilla.
Chatting to Harpers Bazaar about styling Diana in Aus on her final visit to the country in 1996, Jayson said, “She came out holding like handfuls of shoes and bags and just dumped them all down on the couch. Then said, What do you think?.
“So I went through them all and I found a pair of Chanel shoes. And I said, Well these would look great with the Versace, and she said No, I cant wear linked Cs, the double C. So I asked why, and she said, Its Camilla and Charles.'”
Princess Diana and Prince Charles officially divorced in 1996, after announcing their decision to split in 1995.
However, it has long been thought that Camilla (then Parker Bowles), was a continuous presence in their relationship, with Diana admitting in her explosive Panorama interview, “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”
In fact, the Prince of Wales confessed in 1994 to committing adultery with Camilla during his marriage to Diana.
However, he maintained that he only cheated on his wife after “it became clear that the marriage had irretrievably broken down.”
Following her marriage breakdown, Diana had a relationship with Dodi Al-Fayed, who also died in the Parisian car crash which killed the Princess.
