GETTY

PRETTY: Torquay was named the number one beach destination in Britain

Forget jetting off to the Caribbean, with the glorious weather weve been having, you can have a beach break right here in Blighty.

Flocks of Brits headed to the beach at the weekend as temperatures soared to 30C in parts of the country.

And with the good weather set to last for weeks, its likely well be heading to the coast in our hoards again this weekend.

From eating fish and chips to chomping on sticks of rock and feeding slot machines, seaside holidays are often remembered as iconic childhood summertime trips.

The best beaches in the world

TripAdvisor has named the most stunning stretches of sand in the world – and it's Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean and Brazil that take the top two spots in the review site's Travellers' Choice Awards 2016 Grace Bay, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean © TripAdvisor Grace Bay, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean

And it appears Brits are ditching their passports and opting for staycations, once again returning to the coasts of Britain.

But where are the best beaches in Britain?

Premier Inn, who are set to open another 1,000 seaside bedrooms in the next two years, revealed the top 10 beach resorts in the UK.

BOURNMOUTH GETTY

SUNSHINE: Bournemouth is the second most popular seaside resort in the UK

Torquay, a stunning seaside town on the English Channel in Devon, south west England, came out on top.

With its gleaming turquoise waters, golden sand and pretty harbour, its easy to see why the resort was awarded the top spot.

The second most popular seaside resort is Bournemouth, followed by bustling Brighton.

Weymouth came in fourth place and Blackpool – which was named the best beach in Britain last year – came in fifth place.
