Kym Marsh has jumped to the defence of Davina McCall after the TV presenter was trolled on Instagram.
Davina, 50, posted a bikini selfie and few weeks ago and it was met with some nasty criticism and comments from her followers.
“Far too thin, not athletic,” one person wrote, while another said: “Look too thin. Not a nice look.”
In the snap, Davina can be seen showing off her impressive six-pack in a pretty floral bikini as she soaks up the good British weather.
“Hi. It is the beginning of the summer . And this is a bikini selfie. And it probably wont be the last . No apologies. Because I cannot quite believe I am posting pictures of myself in bikinis still,” she wrote alongside the picture.
“I get asked all the time how many times I work out a week. 3 times minimum … 4 ideally.. 45 mins to an hour . Cant run at the mo so I do a mixture strength and cardio … i have so much to be grateful for… my kids are number one but right behind them at no 2 is how my fitness journey has made me feel,” she added.
“If Im groggy, sluggish, negative it always sorts me out … if you are starting … start slow.. set small goals.. achievable goals.. you will get to where you want to be. I did. And if I did. ( after years of yo-yo dieting and binge exercise) You can. #ownyourgoals #fitness #motivation.”
However, there were many users who were quick to compliment Davina and defend her against the body shamers.
“You look beautiful doll. Ignore all the negative insta chat. Well done you,” one person wrote, while another added: “You look amazing! I want those abs.”
Another person keen to defend Davina was Kym, 42, who wrote about the post in her weekly column for OK! magazine.
“Photos can be deceptive and when you take a photo from above you always look thinner,” the soap star explained.
“Thats the trick! Davina has a background in health and fitness. I think it would be wrong if she wasnt eating but was still promoting health and fitness, and she doesnt strike me as an irresponsible person.”
Kym went on: “Its hard work achieving a six-pack — you have to put the right fuel into your body. I think people need to lay off her.
“If she were pictured lying on a beach in a few weeks time with cellulite on her legs, the same people would say shes put on weight. Body shaming for whatever reason is wrong.”
The Coronation Street actress finished by saying: “Davina doesnt look unwell to me. She looks great at 50 and says that being healthy and fit has brought her joy, and she deserves it as shes had a tough time lately.”
We think you look great too Davina, keep the bikini selfies coming!
