Bucks Fizz star Jay Aston is recovering after undergoing an operation for mouth cancer.
A spokesperson for the 57-year-old singer said “all went well” during the surgery, in which she had a section of her tongue removed.
And after speaking to Jays husband Dave, her bandmate Cheryl Baker told her followers Jay was “stable”.
She said: “Jay is stable in ICU. Awake and responding well… I will be going back in the morning… she knows youre all thinking about her and is being very brave… shes in good hands and all the surgery went to plan.”
Ahead of her bandmate going into hospital, Cheryl said: “Sending so much luck and love to Jay Aston this morning. Cannot wait for this to be over for you, Jay.
“Looking forward to ripping skirts off with you soon. With so many thoughts , wishes and prayers from so many, Im sure you will sail through this.”
Jay had already had part of her tongue removed in a bid to beat the cancer and was told the latest op could end her singing career.
The Making Your Mind Up singer previously told The Mirror: “I think if they take more of my tongue away the chances of me singing, even talking, will be very slim.”
She faced a choice between losing her voice or not having treatment, but with a young daughter, it was a no-brainer – although she broke down in tears following the heartbreaking news.
She said: “I have a young daughter, I want to see her grow up, I want to see her get married and see her grandchildren.
“After they told me, I got on the train and bawled my eyes out. Everyone was looking at me. I called my husband, and then Cheryl.
“The thought of rejoining the band is now keeping me going. Being on stage with them is my happy place. Whatever you go through, it doesnt matter when you are on stage.”
