Theres nothing pleasant about using the toilet during a flight.

From battling long queues to worrying about hygiene, there are plenty of things to gripe about.

And now, passengers have another reason to loathe plane loos.

In a bid to boost profits, airlines are reducing the size of cabin toilets.

This allows them to cater for more customers as they can cram more seats into the space available.

Reportedly, American Airlines is among those to make the loos smaller.

The corporation expects to make £376 million more each year by reducing the lavatory sizes in its Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A321 planes.

While the move could prove to be a lucrative one, it has angered staff and passengers alike.

Bloomberg reports that American Airlines captain Jimmy Walton told company president Robert Isom: “Youve added 12 more seats, no more lavatories and youve shrunk that lavatory to 75 percent of what it was before. I cant turn around in it.”

Shane Staples, a spokesman for the Association of Professional Flight Attendants at American, was also critical of the changes.

He said: “We believe these lavatories contribute greatly to the general decline of the in-flight experience and have the potential to lead to increased incidents of air rage.”
