Concerns are growing for “skeletal” Davina McCall, but the star insists shes “happy and healthy.”
To say Davina McCall has had a turbulent year would be an understatement. Back in November the TV presenter, 50, split from her husband of 17 years, Matthew Robertson. Just months later she tragically lost her beloved grandmother, who, having had a famously “complicated” relationship with her own mum, she saw as “a mother” and the “matriarch” of her family.
From a drugs and alcohol addiction, strained family relationships and an on-off battle with depression, life for Davina hasnt always been plain sailing. On the surface, however, you wouldnt guess it, because Davina – with her age-defying athletic and toned physique – has been the picture of health for many years. And, with a whopping 15 fitness DVDs under her belt, she quickly became a success story.
But the recent pictures Davina posted on Instagram have concerned fans, with many calling her “ill” and “unwell”. “Skin and bones,” one online user said. “Not a good look and not healthy.”
So is Davinas love of fitness taking its toll?
SHES “AT HER MOST RELAXED” IN THE GYM
Davina raised eyebrows last month when her usually strong and steely shape looked more skinny, leading to speculation that the breakdown of her marriage could be behind her dramatically changed appearance. Having previously admitted she uses exercise to “clear” her head, lauding the effect training has on her mental health, Davinas shrinking figure could be directly linked to the stress of her divorce.
With rumours swirling that the TV star could be set to hand over £2.5 million for a “quickie divorce” from Matthew, its no surprise shes been putting herself through gruelling workouts in the gym because – by her own admission – its where she feels “the happiest and most relaxed”. “If Im groggy, sluggish, negative, it always sorts me out,” shes previously said.
While Davina feels “reborn” after the menopause thanks to rigorous exercise, some commentators feel shes “gone too far”.
“HAPPY AND HEALTHY”
With concerned onlookers branding Davina “gaunt” and “skeletal”, the former Big Brother host defiantly hit back, insisting shes “happy and healthy”.
Jesus! Talk about hooha!!! Two pics… same day I chose one on the right coz I liked my 6 pack but just so you can all calm down here is one without. Look at my insta … happy and healthy, she wrote on Twitter.
But, despite claiming to be “happy and healthy”, one look at her jam-packed schedule and you can see why fans are concerned shes going to crash if she keeps pushing herself. With TV commitments coming out of her ears – including The £100K Drop, This Time Next Year and Long Lost Family, three children to look after and a home to run, Davina has spoken about feeling “tons of mummy guilt” – which is no doubt another added stress to her pressure-cooker lifestyle.
UNAPOLOGETIC
Say what you want about her, Davina is unapologetic about her body – as proved with her latest confident social media post. “It is the beginning of the summer, and this is a bikini selfie and it probably wont be the last,” she wrote. “No apologies.”
Davina is a dab hand at silencing the critics. Reposting a quote from radio presenter Fearne Cotton, Davina hinted that shes not interested in conforming to what people want her to be. “Youre too thin, too fat, too pale, too old, too strange, too loud, too nice, too quirky – too what, for what? Im me. Im not up for comparison. Im not trying to fit a norm. Im me.”
Working as hard as she does for her lean physique, its perhaps no surprise Davina has no shame in flaunting her abs on social media.
