GETTY

HAND LUGGAGE: There are restrictions as to how much liquid you can bring onboard

Its that time of year again where we pack up our belongings to take a break from everyday life.

However, with airlines increasingly charging for you to bring hold luggage on board, its time to think of alternative methods.

Cutting costs is important for lots of Brits, and if you can make do with a smaller bag, hand baggage is usually free.

While you can usually fit quite a lot in a cabin bag, you do need to keep in mind what liquids you bring.

LIQUID: You need to remove your liquids when going through security

How much liquid can you take in your hand luggage?

You can carry no more than 100ml of any of these liquids on board the flight:

• All drinks (including water)

• Liquid or semi-liquid foods (for example soup, jam, honey and syrups)

• Cosmetics and toiletries (for example creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara and lip gloss)

• Sprays (including shaving foam, hairspray and spray deodorants)

• Gels (including hair and shower gel)

• Contact lens solution

• Any other solutions and items of similar consistency

All these must be placed into individual 100ml containers, and they must all fit in a clear plastic bag, no bigger than 20cm x 20cm.

Only one bag is allowed per customer, and it has to be sealed without problem.

The maximum amount of liquid you can carry on a flight is 1litre.

You also need to take the clear plastic bag out of your hand luggage at security for inspection.

There are some exceptions, for example essential medicines or skin creams which are over 100ml.

You can bring these along with you, assuming you have a note from your doctor explaining why you need them, or bring the prescription.

You can also bring as much baby milk and food as you need for the journey, even above 100ml.

Its over 10 years since rules were introduced, meaning there were restrictions to what liquids flyers could bring onboard.

Dont worry, you can still get your Duty Free good on the other side of security, even if they are above 100ml.

However, if youre stopping over in any other airports you will need them to seal the products in a bag.

Aerosol spray hand luggage GETTY

AEROSOL: You can bring an aerosol spray as long as it is under 100ml

Can you bring aerosols onboard?

Aerosols can be brought onboard, but they count as liquids.

This means they have to be 100ml or less.

If aerosols, such as spray deodorants, are bigger than 100ml you will need to put them in your main luggage.
