Tesla shares closed nearly three per cent down yesterday after boss Elon Musk sent a derogatory tweet about one of the British cave divers involved with the rescue of a football team in Thailand.
Shares fell up to 3.5 per after Musk wrote a tweet, which has since been deleted, calling British caver Vernon Unsworth a "pedo guy". Tesla's price stood at $310.10 dollars as markets closed on Monday, down from $318.87 on Friday.
In an interview with CNN last week, Unsworth slammed Musk for sending a child-sized submarine to Thailand to help with rescue efforts, calling it a "PR stunt".
"He can stick his submarine where it hurts," Unsworth said. "It just has absolutely no chance of working."
In response, Musk wrote on Twitter:
We will make one (video) of the mini-sub/pod going all the way to Cave 5 no problemo. Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it.
Later, Musk tweeted: "Bet ya a signed dollar it's true" in response to criticism – but later deleted that tweet and the initial tweets inferring that Unsworth was a paedophile.
Yesterday, Unsworth confirmed he was looking at pursuing legal action against Musk for the comments.
