It might be nine years since she left but This Morning fans have urged Fern Britton to host the show again after her appearance as a guest on Wednesday went down a storm.
The 61-year-old joined Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford to chat about her new role in Calendar Girls: The Musical but couldnt resist doing a bit of presenting again.
Fern popped up to film a link with Eamonn whilst Ruth was otherwise engaged, prompting Eamonn to jokingly ask: “Do you ever think of doing it professionally?”
“No, its too hard,” Fern quipped in response.
The mum-of-four also talked about her upcoming stint on stage and revealed that, despite daring to strip off for the show, theyll be “no nips and no noo” of hers on display!
She went on to discuss how she got the role after Gary Barlow – who co-wrote the musical – expressed an interest in meeting her.
“At first, I was like No, honestly, no… next thing, I got an email saying Gary Barlow would like to have a coffee with you, so what are you going to do?” Fern explained.
“So I went, and suddenly youre suckered in… and asked, Would you mind reading this? And I looked around after I had done it and the whole room was dark and very quiet.
“And they said, Yep, youve got the job and I walked out speaking to my agent saying, I think Ive got it!”
Fern proved a hit with viewers during her cheerful interview and many have demanded that she return to the sofa full-time.
“PLEASE bring back Fern. No one has ever been able to replace her,” one fan wrote on Twitter, whilst another said: “Come back Fern, really miss you on This Morning.”
And one agreed: “It was so lovely to see Fern back where she belongs”
The nostalgia was heightened even more when Fern revealed later on that shed bumped into her former co-presenter John Leslie.
Fern previously presented This Morning from 1999 until 2002 on Fridays and then became a full-time host in 2002 with Phillip Schofield.
She eventually left in 2009 and was replaced by Holly Willoughby.
