NEW DELHI: The BSE Smallcap index was trading nearly 1 per cent up at 16,459 around 12:55 pm on Friday.
The BSE Sensex was 0.86 per cent up at 37,302, while the NSE Nifty50 was 0.77 per cent up at 11,253 around that time.
IL&FS Transportation Networks (up 14.48 per cent), Shriram EPC (up 14.14 per cent), Madhucon Projects (up 9.96 per cent), Motilal Oswal Financial Services (up 9.43 per cent) and Prism Johnson (up 9.08 per cent) were among the top gainers in the smallcap index.
On the other hand, Ricoh India (down 4.99 per cent), Agro Tech Foods (down 4.92 per cent), JBF Industries (down 4.90 per cent), Diamond Power Infrastructure (down 4.76 per cent) and Shree Renuka Sugars (down 4.48 per cent) were among the top losers in the index around that time.
Gains in heavyweights such as Infosys, ITC, State Bank of India and Reliance Industries were keeping the equity benchmarks aloft, while firm global cues boosted the sentiment.
Data showed that foreign institutional investors made sizeable buying on Thursday which further supported sentiment.
ITC, Tata Motors and Reliance Industries were leading the pack of Sensex gainers.
In the Sensex kitty, 21 stocks were advancing, while 10 were declining.
