Congrats Sophie!
Sophie Ellis-Bextor has announced her and husband Richard Jones, 44, are expecting their fifth child.
The Murder on the Dancefloor singer, 39, has been doing the rounds promoting her new album, and decided to reveal the happy news today live on air.
During the interview with BBC Radio Two host, Chris Evans, she said: “The album will come out around the same time as my fifth infant because Im having my fifth baby. Mental!”
The news came as a shock to the studio guests, who clapped and cheered following her announcement.
As a mother to four boys already – Sonny, 14, Kit, nine, Ray, six, and two-year-old Jesse, Sophie doesnt think it makes being a parent any easier but says she is starting to get used to the chaos of having a large family.
She explained: “We just went away Richard and I with five kids, because our eldest brought a mate, and I took a book which seemed like the most optimistic thing I could have done!
“It didnt even get open – thats without baby. But I have got a two year old.”
News of the new baby hasnt stopped her from working non-stop though and her next album, The Song Diaries, will be due for release around the same time as the babys due date.
Speaking during a recent interview with The Independent, Sophie said of being a working mum: “Motherhood has made me a better performer, a better artist, a happier person. Its evolving. For me, it was a massive deal for me to have my kids. It made me think differently about things.
“I wouldnt say its harder. In fact, I think its made a lot of things have real clarity for me, actually. I wouldnt have done half the things Ive done if I hadnt become a mum.
We cant wait for the new album AND the new baby.
