Former Irish rugby union star Shane Monahans social audio app Limor has formally launched, following a €500,000 (£447,000) over-subscribed funding round.
Limor, which is available on both Apple and Android operating systems, is a social media platform dedicated to all things audio and lets users record, edit, share, listen to and engage with short social audio content and podcasts, directly from their smartphones – giving first-time users easy entry into the world of audio production.
The app has both a free, entry-level service and a premium, paid-for platform that allows subscribers greater functionality and content options. As popularity grows and the platform increases in both users and traffic, Limor aims to attract blue chip strategic sponsors to monetise for both itself and subscribers.

The companys CEO, former Leinster, Connacht, Munster and Gloucester wing Shane Monahan, founded the platform in 2014 and believes that, with the rise of home assistants such as Alexa, Google Home and Siri and the growing popularity of podcasting, we are now entering the era of social audio.
“We are perfectly positioned to dominate the Social Audio market – nobody else does what we do,” said Monahan.
“This audio era is very exciting and we know the demand is there. Social Audio is the last social media channel to be disrupted and we are the ones doing it. What Instagram did for images, we are doing for audio.”

On top of its initial €500,000 funding, the company has begun attracting more UK investor interest and has started work on a further round of fund-raising at an increased valuation.
