Sid Owen has reached out to his former EastEnders co-star Danniella Westbrook after she has been diagnosed with womb cancer.
The pair were on-screen husband and wife in 1991, when they played Ricky Butcher and Sam Mitchell in the BBC soap.
And now Sid, 46, has confessed hes shocked by the news about Danniella.
Speaking to the Mirror, he said: “Im gobsmacked. Wish her well.
“Shes a strong girl and had to battle worse. My prayers are out for her and her family.”
Mum-of-two Danniella, 44, opened up about her cancer diagnosis at the weekend.
Not only is she facing a hysterectomy and nerve-racking wait to see if the cancer has spread, but shes terrified as her reality TV star friend Jade Goody died of cervical cancer in 2009.
Like Jade, Danniella had not had a smear for many years, meaning an opportunity may have been missed to detect her cancer sooner.
She told the Sunday Mirror: “Ive always said I am not scared of dying.
“But when the doctor said, You have cancer, straight away my thoughts turned to Jade and that I dont want to die. I know I need to fight.”
Other celebrities have taken to social media to support Danniella – who has a son, Kai, 21, and 16-year-old daughter Jodie.
Former Big Brother housemate Chelsea Singh said: “You cant keep Danni down, shes tough when she needs to be and a winner. F*** off cancer!”
And Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels star Vas Blackwood added: “Praying for you dearest.”
Danniellas mother was diagnosed with womb cancer 30 years ago, and Danniella says she is “still here” thanks to undergoing treatment on the NHS and that she will follow suit.
She added: “They are taking me in in three weeks for a full hysterectomy. Before they take it out they wont know to what extent the cancer has grown.”
Danniella added her doctors believe the cancer is “containable” and that shes “hopeful” about the future.
