Its World Menopause Day, so its unsurprising that some of our favourite faces are opening up about their own personal experiences with the menopause.
And, this years Strictly contestant, Susannah Constantine has revealed her own struggles of going through the change on Thursdays instalment of ITVs Lorraine.
Discussing the issue with Lorraine Kelly, Susannah, 56, confessed that the menopause has been something that has impacted her life for years.
“The menopause is something that affected my life from an early age. My mum, who was a manic depressive, went through the menopause and really nosedived. So I was always terrified of the menopause approaching,” she confessed.
The TV star went on to reveal that her biggest battle with experiencing the change hasnt been the physical toll it has taken on her body, but the psychological side of things, which Susannah calls mental menopause.
“I never felt the physical side effects. I went through, and am still going through, the mental menopause,” she revealed.
Adding: “As women of, kind of our age, you start to lose so much. You stop getting your period, your children leave home, you may be thinking about retiring, your whole world is changing and its a really tough time for women.”
Thankfully, Susannah has had a lot to keep her occupied as of late, since she starred in this years series of Strictly.
Sadly, her and professional partner Anton Du Beke were the first couple to get the boot, but Susannah has confessed she simply did the show for herself.
“I think it was to help me feel that I was relevant to myself, not anybody else, to myself and to push myself. Also, with age and wisdom and experience, it didnt matter so much if I failed as long as I tried,” she explained to Lorraine.
“I had that on my side. I really encourage women to go out and try something new and give it a go. If it doesnt work, it doesnt matter. Thats what we say to our children all the time, now Im saying it to myself.”
We couldnt agree more, Susannah!
