Craig Revel Horwood has candidly spoken of his troubled relationship with his late alcoholic father in extracts from his forthcoming third autobiography, In Strictest Confidence.
The Strictly judge, 51, penned some very harrowing insight into his relationship with his father Philip Revel Horwood, who battled with substance issues throughout his life.
After deciding not to attend his funeral in 2015, Craig spoke about his feelings towards his late dad.
“My relationship with my dad wasnt amazing. He battled with alcoholism all his life and he wasnt a nice man when he was drunk.
“There was never a time he was sober so that I could speak to him properly and, as I left Australia when I was 23, he never really knew me well as an adult,” he said.
In other painful extracts, obtained by the Daily Mail, the ballroom professional discusses the unforgivable moments in his relationship with his father.
“Looking back, there were many unforgivable moments,” he explained. “But you just had to get on with it. We didnt exactly turn a blind eye, but we put on brave faces.”
It is described in the text that Craigs father went on a drunken rampage with two loaded guns in the street in Australia and almost shot his brother-in-law.
Craig also recalled how in 2015, when his father passed away, he was performing in a pantomime in High Wycombe.
He didnt cancel his performance, but rather told the pantomime company that he would dedicate the Frank Sinatra song My Way to his father, as it was his favourite song.
“I told them My Way was his favourite song and that I would devote each performance to Dad. So thats what I did and I got through it,” he said.
He later recorded a version of the Sinatra song to be played at his dads funeral in Australia that he didnt attend.
Craigs third autobiography, In Strictest Confidence, will hit shelves on October 18 as a follow on from his first two books Tales from the Dance Floor and All Balls and Glitter.
